Recognize Businesses that Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
The NM Recycling Coalition has partnered with the NM Green Chamber of Commerce, NMSU Institute for Energy and the Environment and the NM Environment Department Green Zia Environmental Leadership Program to launch a new recognition program aimed directly at businesses that not only recycle, but also take steps to reduce and reuse their waste stream. This first year, the recognition program will be targeting businesses in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Taos, Las Cruces and Silver City.

Please help spread the word to businesses you work for or work with that are taking these extra steps and help them earn some justly deserved recognition.

Businesses can submit their nomination by October 19th, 2012 at www.nmgreenchamber.com/nmbizrecycle

Getting Started with a Waste Audit and Recycling Plan
There is an entity in New Mexico that can provide free assistance to businesses in evaluating their waste stream and energy usage, and provide a plan to reduce both. WERC, a program of NM State University, provides consultations: Chris Campbell, 505-8434251, chriscam@nmsu.edu.

Recycle NM Annual 2012 Campaign Targets the Business Community
May 29 - Albuquerque – A new partnership has been created in order to expand business recycling programs around the state. The NM Recycling Coalition, the NM Green Chamber of Commerce, the NMSU Institute for Energy and the Environment and the NM Environment Department Green Zia Environmental Leadership Program have joined forces to launch an outreach campaign to assist businesses to start or expand their recycling programs.

"At least half of all recyclables are generated by the business sector. That is a huge opportunity to increase our community-level recycling rates, avoid wasteful costs for businesses and generate some awareness about the importance of businesses providing recycling options to customers and employees," explains English Bird, NM Recycling Coalition Executive Director.

“Through this campaign we will recognize leading businesses who are reducing their waste, improving the bottom-line and as a result giving back to their communities,”  said New Mexico Green Chamber of Commerce President Lawrence Rael. “Businesses across the state are looking for ways to reduce costs and this series of trainings will give them the tools to move forward.”

The partnership plans to launch a recognition program that allows businesses to receive acknowledgment for their diversion efforts. This fall, businesses around the state, will be asked to commit their participation of such activities as recycling, composting, recycled-content procurement and source reduction practices. Recognition will take place surrounding America Recycles Day activities, which occur each November 15th. Businesses that recycle and commit will be provided with media exposure, recognition and entry-way window decals.

Another component of the program is free training to interested businesses that wish to start or expand their recycling program. This first training is scheduled in Albuquerque for June 20th, 3-5PM at the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town.

Target communities include Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Taos, Silver City, Otero County, Deming, Truth or Consequences, Gallup, Grants/Milan, Torrance County, Raton, Las Vegas, Angel Fire and Los Alamos. Trainings and on-site business evaluations will occur in these communities in the fall as outreach for the recognition program.
